Trinity College was founded in 1555 and has grounds that extend from the main entrance on Broad Street through to St Giles and to Parks Road. Famous alumni range from William Pitt the Elder to Noel Chavasse, the only man to be awarded the Victoria Cross twice during the First World War. In fiction, Jay Gatsby, the title character of F. Scott Fitzgerald's novel, "The Great Gatsby", briefly attended Trinity after the 1914-18 war.
